What they're supposed to tell you and often don't

What they're supposed to tell you but often don't These are standard methods for music schools

Music Majors
  • You have to attend at least 10 tuesday student recitals (11am) per semester and 2 other performances (For credit, you must have a program signed by your instructor and turned into the music office).
  • After your first semester, you have to register all classes online. Music classes require a departmental override. Forms can be obtained in the music office.
  • All 8am secondary instrument classes are co-requisit to M.E.L. Band. For every one of these classes you will have to sign up for both sections. EX. Trumpet & Trombone MUSC 211-0 and Trumpet & Trombone MUSC 211-1.
  • Every semester you have a jury for your primary instrument(s). This will be a large percent of your final grade. It will take place in front of certain professors. Percussionists will play for the low brass department and for Dorsey.
  • Percussionists are required to perform in student recitals at least once a year. You must be part of a large and small ensemble. Examples of these can be found here
  • Taking a 2 credit hour applied course enrolls you in the studio. Most studios in the wind/percussion are on thursdays at 11am.

Education
Everyone
  • Practice being EARLY, set-up and ready to go for rehearsals. Nothing makes the director and your section leader more angry than someone who is disruptively unprepared. So says the 'Musician's Guide for Dummies' if there was one. You would think it to be obvious, but many people neglect it.
